Everyone seems to be getting used to the transport system now, Everyone is making it into work on time and with no problems. Ian and Chris are a little further out than the rest of us and have been working from two different buildings. Andras is still working from HUB RAUM and has been given a different assignment to Ian and Chris who were all working together previously.
Andras was busy categorising different job titles and putting them into their correct positions for use with an automated python run program for use in the future. Ian and Chris have been asked to contact Irish banks and telecommunications companies and will have to contact them next week. Mark and Caoimhe are still testing the website and being taught HTML at their workplace. So overall we are busy with our project but looking forward to seeing how they develop.

This was our second weekend in Krakow and it was a very cultural as it was Easter weekend. We all walked around the city and we saw how important religion is in Krakow. As we walked through the city at night we met with people walking to late night mass with light candles. We also had a very disappointing moment on Saturday as we were all up and ready for a trip to the salt mines but to our disappointment we realised when we were at the meeting point that our trip was cancelled.
On Sunday we visited more churches and the markets, and experienced Easter in Poland. We also visited a live butterfly museum which had live butterflies and birds flying around us. We got to hold the butterflies and the people there were very informative. Overall it was a good days exploring. Myself and Mark have been given a project to do for the month, which involves JavaScript and HTML mostly and a small part of CSS, which are all programming languages. We have to create a blog for the company application. Before this we have been testing the application itself and installing what was needed to complete this task. I myself installed a virtual box so I could run the operating system Ubuntu and then we got sublime or atom which are source-code editors. They are good because they give you little hints and you can get others which can help you out more. With blog we are creating, it is quite basic, with a button to 'save' and another one for a 'new post'. There is also text fields when you enter in your blog and your name which will at some time connect to the user's profile on the companies application
Ian and Chris had a different day as they were getting their picture taken for LinkedIn which is a business and employment social network recruitment site. You create your own profile which is similar to your CV just a bit more detail and you look at other people profiles and follow what they are up to job wise. They spent their morning away from the monitors and in front of the camera. The others are busy as always with looking up information about future clients and when they a significant amount done they then moved on to emailing those who they found and send a email on behalf of the company. Today myself and Caoimhe arrived into work and we spent the morning testing the company's software as they had released a new build on Monday. Then after 12pm we spent the next few hours learning HTML and JavaScript.
Liam spent the day emailing possible future clients for the company he is working for. Chris, Ian and Andras spent the day also searching for possible future clients and replying to any emails that they received When we had all finished we gathered in the apartment, a few of us went out for a meal whilst some of the others went and watched a match in a local pub. Today is Friday, Ian and Chris went to the Colombus building, where they continued collecting contact details of companies from Cebit. Caoimhe and Mark was reading notes on Javascript, learning how to do HTML. Liam continued researching potential clients and sending emails to them. Andras went to HubRaum helping Sebastian with their International jobseeker application. Father Bernatek Bridge over the Vistula, near Kazimerz districtOver the weekend we had to say goodbye to our first apartment as we were moving to our new one on Smolensk street. Before we got to see our new apartment we got to go on a guided tour of Krakow. We were shown the history of Krakow, first we went to the square where we were told about St Mary's Basilica and we got to hear the trumpeter play. We learnt that he plays on the hour every hour four times in succession in each of the cardinal directions. Once we had finished listening to the trumpeter we went to the place where Pope John Paul the second lived and there was a church across from there and we got to see where his favourite seat was. Once we had seen the Basilica we headed to Wawel royal castle where we learned it was built for King Casimir the Second who reigned from 1333 to 1370. We learned that after WW2 most of the castle was destroyed by nazi occupants. We then got to go inside where we saw the beautiful architecture inside.
Our tour guide then brought us up to the top of the castle where there was a big bell and apparently when you touch it with your left hand it will grant you a wish. Once we had seen the castle we headed to the Jewish quarter where we saw where the Schindler's list movie was filmed. Then we went to have a look around the square of the Jewish quarter. After that we headed back to our new apartment where we were all tired from the long walk around the city. Today was Thursday, the weather had changed from bright and warm to now cold and gloomy, Caoimhe and I left early in the morning for work. When we arrived Mathew let us inside. We began the day with some testing of their website then we were informed that our boss Wiktor would not be present today. Mathew informed us that we were to read over notes on learning Java Script and to test it out on a website. This was very different from Java the programming language we do in college and it was pretty difficult to get the hang of. We spent the remainder of our time in work trying to wrap our heads around this new programming language.
Chris, Andras and Ian traveled to a different building today. They took a cab to get there and took a tram home, this place was further away than the place they had been in previously. They were using LinkedIn to find clients for the company they are working for, they were searching for peoples emails so that later in time they could be used to contact them. Liam was also using LinkedIn to find possible future clients for the company, on LinkedIn he found links to their websites, he also acquired their emails on Hunter. In the evening we had planned to visit Wawel Royal Castle and we all got ready and left the apartment, on the way there heavy rain started to fall so we decided to head back to the apartment and go a different day when the weather was nicer. Today was our second day at work and we all looking forward to starting the day. When I arrived at work I was told what I was going to be doing for the day, at first I felt nervous but as the day went on I became more comfortable doing the work I was assigned. I was told to research possible future clients for the company and then show them to my employers. Then I was showed some iOS programming by my employers which they are using for there current project- the itrucker app. Mark and Caoimhe were testing a website for art collectors and later in the day, learnt some java script which a programming language. Ian, Chris and Andras were searching for future clients for there company. Later that night we went and explored Krakow we walked around the city looking in Polish tourist shops and when we were done the weather had changed and we experienced a really bad thunder and lighting shower.
Today we arrived at work and met the people we will be working with for the remainder of our time in Krakow. Simon and Gabi seem very friendly and enthusiastic about their jobs which seems to rub off on everyone in the building. Ian, Chris and Andras are all working in the same building, although with two different companies. The building itself is an old factory building restored and remodelled to look a very appealing modern tech hub. We were given a short synopsis of what work we will be doing and Simon and Gabi took our emails and mobile numbers to set us up on their network. Tomorrow they will be going into more detail as to what we will have to do and are going to show us the other building we are to work from. Mark and Caoimhe were kept busy testing a website and looking for bugs in the system. They wrote down everything they found and kept account of it.
So today was or official second full day in Krakow Poland, We are all just starting to get use to our surroundings , and we surprised to see that the Irish weather seamed to had followed us. While some of us went out on the venture through the City, Caoimhe and Mark prepared to set out at 7:00 am to met who they will be working for With the month. When they arrive home they had many stories about where they had been and how the company had a few animals around which of course became their new best friends.
After that it was Ian's Christopher's and Andras' turn to venture out to see what they will be doing for the month. We set off at 5:30 pm and we hoped on Tram 24 . The Tram was a surprisingly smooth ride and we had arrived at our destination in no time. The area was quite different from what we were use to. we went from a very medieval Krakow to a very industrial Krakow . The Business that we were working in was just a quick walk through a tunnel and the bullind was very cool. We met a few of the workers and thry explained everything and we will find out what we will be doing tommorow. Soon after it Was Liam's turn and the company the he was working with was not that far from the apartment . He was told about the company and how they are an ios based company and about how all their company's they work with were based in the US. Soon after we all just stayed in and relaxed and chated among ourselves |
